Hande Erçel Made Me Buy It
Over the years I`ve learned that aside from hours of quality entertainment, Turkish shows are also amazing sources of fashion inspiration. The actors and actresses are always donning the most beautiful formal and casual outfits on screen and the stylists make sure to combine high-end brands as well as more affordable brands, so that fans of these characters can catch up on a new episode and immediately visit a brick-and-mortar or an online shop and purchase a piece that caught their eye. After all, who doesn’t love to put on an outfit that makes them feel like a million bucks, or, in this case, liras?
One of my dizi style inspirations is actress Hande Erçel. The twenty-eight-year-old talented actress has starred in some of my favorite dizis and has achieved success in her native Turkey, as well as internationally. To be fair, she`s stunning and would look good sashaying down 5th Avenue in a trash bag and a pair of Ugg boots, but it`s her vibrant spirit and the risks she`s willing to take that makes every outfit the stylists put her in come to life. Personally, I`m not someone who intuitively knows what a piece of clothing will look like once its off the hanger. That`s why I`m always looking for inspiration and Hande is one of my go-to fashion girlies to model my style after. What`s even better is that – A. she is the face of a popular Turkish clothing brand that is available in the United States, and B. – internet sleuths (bless you all!) always sniff out which brands she`s wearing and share it with the rest of us so we can find the exact pieces or dupes.
In today`s post I`d like to tell you about two brands I learned about thanks to Hande Erçel that I`ve either already incorporated into my closer or will very soon!
Nocturne
Hande Erçel is an it girl if I`ve ever seen one, so no wonder brands are dying to have her be their face and participate in their campaigns. Nocturne, a fashion brand that offers trendy pieces, as well as basics that you can easily pair with anything you already own, is one of the lucky ones that get to call Hande their official ambassador. I probably would`ve never discovered the brand if it weren’t for me following Hande on social media, so I suppose I`m lucky too! The brand is inclusive in terms of offering pieces for both, what they called seasoned fashionistas and ladies whose style is more simplistic or who haven`t yet discovered their signature style and want quality pieces to add to their wardrobe. Nocturne is big into themed collections. New Year`s Eve, Return of the 90s, and Rainbow Mountain are just a few from the current collections on Nocturne`s website. Offering collections allows the shoppers to immediately know if a collection is for them or not, subsequently saving them time. In addition, it makes it easier to pair pieces since the styles, colors palettes, and prints are cohesive.
I own a handful of Nocturne pieces such as a knit, belted romper, a jogger set, and a few pairs of high-waisted pants that are perfect for the office and for every-day wear. So far, I`ve been really happy with each piece, I like the fact that the clothes and accessories are made in Turkey (I haven’t had a chance to visit yet, so wearing something that`s made there feels special), and I`m always thrilled to see Hande rock something from Nocturne because I know that I can own it and (hopefully) rock it, too!
There are around fifty physical Nocturne locations all over the world. In addition, you can also shop on Nocturne`s Turkish website. There is also an American version and while you might not find all of the pieces that are offered on its Turkish counterpart, it is much easier to navigate if you`re non-Turkish speaker.
Maison Ju
A typical dizi will always include at least a handful of episodes that center around the characters attending a garden party, a wedding, a fancy work get-together, or some extravagant gala. The male characters always look chic in their perfectly-fitted suits, but it`s the female characters who still manage to outshine them. One brand that is often featured in dizis, particularly when it comes to party dresses and evening gowns, is Maison Ju. Maison Ju is an haute couture brand spearheaded by creative directors Ahsen Uğurlu and Duygu Alptekin. According to the brand`s website, when it comes to their creations, Ahsen and Duygu are heavily inspired by the elegance and timelessness of the women from the 1950s. Maison Ju not only designs couture pieces, but also offers its clients a selection of ready-to-wear and wedding pieces.
So, what is the connection between Hande and Maison Ju? A pretty mini dress comes to mind. Specifically, a fitted, ruffled, muted-yellow Maison Ju Hanna dress that Hande wears in one of the early episodes of her hit show Sen Çal Kapımı (Love is in the Air). Hande plays Eda who is stunning girl, but who doesn’t feel the need to try to outshine other women with extravagant dresses and massive jewelry. The dress translates the sweetness, the innocence, and the pure intentions of Hande`s character and that`s why it`s such a perfect choice. Also, the dress reminds me a lot of Belle`s yellow dress in Beauty and the Beast.
I have to be honest - Hande Erçel did not make me buy the dress. Not just yet, anyway because it`s a bit of an investment—currently, the dress is being sold for 6750 Turkish liras or approximately 360 US dollars. I`m still saving space for it in my closet and will treat myself when I reach an important milestone that I`ll hopefully be able to tell you more about soon.
Despite Sen Çal Kapımı having ended back in 2021, but the Hanna dress is still as popular as ever, having recently popped up in Bir Peri Masalı, a new dizi that premiered this fall, starring Alina Boz.
